Definition of Jenny Craig

Jenny Craig: Jenny Craig is a diet program that originated in Australia in 1983 in Australia and started U.S. operations in 1985. The program teaches participants how to eat the foods they want in small, frequent portions and to increase energy levels by increasing activity. At the final level, the program teaches clients how to build more balance into their lives in order to maintain weight loss and follow a healthy diet.

The Jenny Craig program is based upon prepackaged meals. For the most part, these are frozen breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and desserts. Meals may be purchased at a Jenny Craig Center, or ordered via telephone or the internet. Nutritionally, they're based on the USDA food pyramid and contain 60% carbohydrate, 20% percent protein, and 20% percent fat. Participants supplement these meals with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and reduced-fat dairy products.

Jenny Craig offers 24-hour phone and online support as well as diet centers where clients can receive individual consultations.
