Definition of Ecchymosis
Ecchymosis: Nonraised skin discoloration caused by the escape of blood into the tissues from ruptured blood vessels. Ecchymoses can occur in mucous membranes (for example, in the mouth). Last Editorial Review: 3/19/2012
