Definition of Major anxiety disorder

Major anxiety disorder: A major disorder (Anxiety Disorders spectrum) characterized by excessive, irrational fear and dread. The major anxiety disorders are:

  • panic disorder;
  • obsessive-compulsive disorder;
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder);
  • social phobia;
  • specific phobias such as claustrophobia; and
  • generalized anxiety disorder.
