Definition of Serial transverse enteroplastySerial transverse enteroplasty: Abbreviated STEP. A surgical procedure designed to treat the short bowel syndrome. STEP is based on the idea that stapling V-shapes into alternating sides of the bowel will decrease its width and increase its length.
