Definition of Soothing

Soothing: Bringing comfort, solace, reassurance, peace, composure, quietude.

To soothe is to allay, balm, becalm, calm, compose, lull, quiet, settle, still, or tranquilize.

In medicine, an agent that is soothing is called a demulcent.
